MURAL CONNECTION RESIDENCY PROGRAM IN NORTH CAROLINA SCHOOLS

BERTIE COUNTY MURAL at Aulander Elementary School January, 2012

North Carolina Arts Council awarded a grant (Arts in Education) that brought Tunde to Bertie County to work with the students at Aulander Elementary School on his Mural Connection Residency Program.
Tunde a North Carolina resident artist worked with a core group of students in grades 2, 3, 4 and 5 to create a mural that explores Bertie County . Emphasis was on the use of elements art such as color, line, shape, form, value, space and texture to create a visual narrative based on the students’ knowledge of their County (Bertie). In Social Studies class, the students were engaged in a research for better understanding of Bertie County. All information collected during the reseach study were used to guide the students to create visual concept for the mural.
The mural is now a permanent learning feature for all students.

Painting is all about observing a color and then being able to apply that exact color as needed to relate properly with other colors in your composition.
